We are still caught in summer’s embrace here on the Crystal Coast.

Almost everyone who lives at the beach agrees fall is the best time. You owe it to yourself to find out for sure.

Most people have no idea how much fun it can be to take a 12 ft kayak out on a beautiful tidal river that is two miles wide in places. Â It is a wonderful adventure and can be as strenuous or easy as you would like if you do your planning right.

It is the heart of summer and a persistent southwest wind has stirred the waters and the warm temperatures have a good grip on us but there is still lots of fun to be had.

I love being out on the water and seeing how far away the land is.

I have enjoyed spending a week back in my uniform of shorts and t-shirt. Â I am not pleased to have to give them up this weekend for bluejeans and a sweat shirt. Â The warm days are just teasing us.

Raymond’s Gut just up the river from Swansboro, North Carolina, froze in the wake of the Siberian Express. Â Fortunately our freeze-up only lasted a little over a day. Â This morning we had a little fog on the river but were ice free. Â Our temperature managed to hit 66F this afternoon before heading back down.

We had a gloomy Friday and 2.9 inches of rain on Saturday morning. Â The clouds never left but we might get some of that valuable sunshine on the dock tomorrow.

if you are going to enjoy the sunshine, you need to sample the rain.
