Thin strand barrier islands like the Point at Emerald Isle are always on the move and changing. Read about the ever changing edge of sand that surrounds the Point at Emerald Isle. The Point at Emerald Isle is one of my favorite beaches. With a little hiking you can explore one of the great natural treasures of North Carolina’s coast. When you leave it, you do so with the knowledge that it will be different the next time you visit. Even though sand seems to stretch endlessly to the horizon there now, in November 2007, the sands of the Point disappeared only to reappear a year later.
